Quantities,
Yards & Gauges
All of our
yarns are spun on the "woolen system" for a traditional homespun
appearance, softer twist, and more bloom than worsted-spun yarns.
The result is that our 2-ply yarns knit up to the same gauge as
what is commonly called "4-ply knitting worsted." Here are the
quantities, yards, and gauges suggested for a medium size adult
sweater:
- 2-ply:
Six 4-ounce skeins (210 yards/skein, 4-1/2 st/in, #8 needle
- 3-ply:
Nine 4-ounce skeins (145 yards/skein, 3-1/2 st/in, #10 needle
- Bulky:
Twelve 4-ounce skeins (80 yards/skein, 3 st/in, #10-1/2 needle
- Sport:
One 1-lb. cone (1750 yards, 6 st/in, #3 needle
Always check
by knitting a sample gauge as suggested in the pattern!
Full-Measure
Skeins ®
Our yarns
are not put up in confusing weights or "short" skeins. We sell
what we call "Full-measure" ® - a full four ounces per skein, four
skeins per pound. You can depend upon every 2-ply 4-ounce skein
containing 210 yards of yarn, with maybe an extra wind or two
for good measure. Thrifty knitters are pleased with the excellent
yardage per skein compared to 100 gram or smaller balls, and the
cost of the yarn for your project will compare favorably as well!
